How vinegar is made ?
Vinegar can be made from just about anything
containing sugar-from apple juice to grape juice
to coconut water. There are two steps involved in preparing the fermentation process . The first step uses yeast to convert
sugars into alcohol. The second uses bacteria from
a family called Acetobacter; with the help of oxygen from
the air, the bacteria metabolize the alcohol and produce,
as a waste product, as acetic acid. The sour flour in vinegar is by acetic acid ,thus making vinegar as a natural disinfectant .
Acetobacter also produce cellulose,a fiberous substance that in vinegar combines with the acetic acid to form whats called the mother, the goop that you will sometimes see at the bottom of vinegar bottles, Commercial producers mostly pasteurize their vinegar to kill the bacteria and prevent the formation of mother. Its harmless. herbalists even attribute healing properties tto the mother
